The ministry, Church Growth Service was founded in 1994 by Dr. Francis Bola Akin-John. At that time he was pastoring a denominational church. He eventually resigned his appointment with the church after eight years of pastoring, to fully concentrate on the new ministry. Initially, the ministry was not well received by pastors and church leaders. They were skeptical of what we claim to offer. But gradually there skepticism began to give way when they began to attend some of our conferences and purchased some of the materials we have on offer. The experience gained during the eight years of pastoring plus the information that were picked up in books helped to make our services unbeatable to pastors and churches. Today the ministry have grown to the extent of becoming the number one in providing up-to-date information through books tapes and conferences for pastors and church leader in Nigeria, Africa. The president and founder of the ministry is a well-read man. Even though he came from a very humble background, yet he had been able to educate himself up to PHD level. His degrees are in theology.

Church growth service is a ministry that is vastly different from others because we are deeply focused on supporting pastors and strengthening churches. Even though churches have grown and are growing in the last 20 years in Nigeria and Africa yet there are many churches that are deteriorating and dying. Up to 85% of Nigerian churches are found in this category. There are several thousands of churches that are well advanced into decline. Even those who are growing there are wide spread ignorance as to the reasons why the growth is happening. This we want to remove. We want to provide and encourage growth consciousness that is sadly lacking in the majority of churches in our nation. We are striving to provide information that can eliminate most of the problems confronting the church in Nigeria and Africa. We want to address the glaring disparity between rapid and lasting, solid growth. In the last six years, we have been able to reach out to about 20,000 pastors and Christian workers in Africa yet, there are much more grounds to be covered. It is estimated that there are more than 300,000 pastors in Nigeria alone. The need is great. We are out to support these pastors as much as we can, both morally, materially, physically and sometimes, financially. We are also out to straightening the churches for more solid, balanced and durable growth
